Ann Prentice is Director and Head of Nutrition and Bone Health Research at the MRC Elsie Widdowson Laboratory, Cambridge, and Head of the Calcium, Vitamin D and Bone Health Group at MRC Keneba, The Gambia. She is a basic scientist with a strong commitment to the translation of scientific evidence into policy and practice. She is Chair of the UK Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition, the Chief Scientist for the consortium currently conducting the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey, and serves on national and international advisory committees. Her research focuses on lifecourse nutritional requirements for population health, with an emphasis on calcium and vitamin D, encompassing the nutritional problems of both affluent and resource-limited societies. She is involved in projects studying pregnant and lactating women, children, adolescents and older persons in the UK, The Gambia, Uganda, Malawi, Kenya, China, Bangladesh and South Africa. She is an Honorary Professor of Global Nutrition and Health of the University of Cambridge, a Visiting Professor of the University of Southampton, an Honorary Doctor of the University of Surrey, and holds Honorary Professorships at the University of Witswatersrand, South Africa and Shenyang Medical College, PR China. She was awarded the title of Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health in 2015, of the Nutrition Society in 2016, and of the Association for Nutrition in 2012.  She is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences, and the Royal Society of Biology. She was appointed OBE in the Birthday Honours List in 2006.
